About us
Get into STEM: The Diversity in STEM Toolkit delivers resources to support girls and diverse students at primary and secondary school to see a future for themselves in STEM education and careers. The Toolkit includes resources for students to explore the many opportunities available through STEM. It also has evidence-based educational support resources for their teachers, families and carers, aligned to the Australian Curriculum.
Get into STEM features:
- curriculum aligned lesson plans that focus on a multi-disciplinary approach to STEM learning
- professional learning materials and events
- profiles of STEM role models from diverse backgrounds, working across a wide range of STEM fields
- interactive career resources including a Careers A–Z, the STEMOSPHERE and a STEM careers quiz.
Get into STEM was previously known as The Girls in STEM Toolkit (The GiST). In 2025, this initiative was updated and expanded to also cater to young primary and secondary school students from other cohorts underrepresented in STEM. In line with the Australian Government’s ‘National Strategy to Achieve Gender Equality’ and ‘Pathway to Diversity in STEM Review final recommendations report’, Get into STEM builds on The GIST’s support for young women and girls and gender diverse/non-binary people to also encompass a broader diversity of cohorts underrepresented in STEM, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people living with disabilities, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with low socio-economic status, LGBTQIA+ people, neurodivergent people, and people living in regional and remote areas. This includes consideration of those with intersectional identities who may experience multiple barriers.
Get into STEM: Diversity in STEM Toolkit project is funded by the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources and managed by Education Services Australia.
