Create a 3-minute video about the STEM achievements of an unsung Australian STEM star for your chance to win $300

Ready to make a difference in STEM? 

The competition is open to all students Foundation to Year 10, from Australian schools. Students in Foundation to Year 4 can enter as a class and students in Year 5 to Year 10 can enter either as individuals or as a team or class. You don’t need any fancy equipment, just a creative vision and a great story. 

Entries need to be submitted by a teacher, parent or carer, aged 18 or older.

Entries close 27 November 2025 with winners to be announced on 8 December 2025.

About the competition

  • There will be three prize-winners for each of the four categories. Prize-winners will receive:

    Foundation – Year 4 (class/group entries only): $300 Visa Gift Card to the winning entry and 2 x $100 Visa Gift Card for runner-up prizes. (Note: All prizes in the Foundation to Year 4 category will be awarded to the school of the winning entry.)

    Year 5 – Year 6: $300 Visa Gift Card for the winner and 2 x $100 Visa Gift Card for runner-up prize-winners.

    Year 7 – Year 8: $300 Visa Gift Card for the winner and 2 x $100 Visa Gift Card for runner-up prize-winners.

    Year 9 – Year 10: $300 Visa Gift Card for the winner and 2 x $100 Visa Gift Card for runner-up prize-winners.

    1. Videos must focus on the STEM achievements of an Australian.
    2. Videos must be no longer than 3 minutes, no larger than 600 MB, and submitted as MP4 files.
    3. Foundation to Year 4 submissions must be submitted as a class entry.
    4. Year 5 to Year 10 submissions can be created by one student or by a team of students, up to a whole school class.
    5. All video content must be students’ own original work, with third-party content allowed if relevant, properly credited and used in line with copyright guidelines.
    6. All entries must comply with the Terms and Conditions and entrants must ensure that:
      1. any third-party material (for example, images, video, music) included in film is either copyright-free or is included with the appropriate permission and/or approval. Any film that does not comply with copyright will not be considered.
      2. appropriate permissions/approvals have been obtained to include images, audio or video of people other than themselves.
      3. parental consent has been obtained for all participating children/students.
      4. students’ privacy is protected if they choose to appear in the video (for example, students featured in the video should not be easily identified by school uniform, name or location).
    7. Schools can submit multiple entries.
  • CONDITIONS OF ENTRY FOR THE STEM SHORT VIDEO COMPETITION  

    1. The STEM Short Video Competition (Competition) is run by Education Services Australia Limited (ABN 18 007 342 421) of 22/180 Lonsdale St, Melbourne, Victoria 3000, trading as “Education Services Australia” (ESA).
    2. Entry into the Competition is deemed acceptance of these Conditions of Entry. 
    3. Information on entry requirements, judging criteria and award categories form part of these conditions of entry.
    4. ESA employees and office bearers and the immediate families of these people are ineligible to enter.
    5. The Competition commences at 9 a.m. (AEST) on 9 August 2025 and entries close at 5 p.m. on 27 November 2025 (AEDT). 
    6. The Competition is a game of skill.
    7. Entrants are required to complete all questions in the Competition entry form and to upload their video to Dropzone as per instructions on the Competiton website.
    8. Personal information collected as part of the Competition will be managed in accordance with the Girls in STEM Toolkit Privacy Policy and will only be used for administering the Competition.
    9. ESA reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who the Promoter has reason to believe has breached any of these conditions or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of the Competition. ESA reserves its legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender.
    10. Any questions, comments or complaints about the Competition must be directed to ESA and not to a third party.

     

    Prizes

    1. Competition entries will be judged by the Education Services Australia Girls in STEM Toolkit team.
    2. Prize winners will be notified on 8 December 2025 by email, using the email address they provided in their entry form.
    3. Prize winners must respond to the email notifying them of their prize within five working days. If they fail to do so, they will no longer be eligible to receive their prize, and it may be awarded to another entrant.
    4. ESA’s decision to award the prizes is final and no further correspondence will be entered into regarding ESA’s decision.
    5. Tax implications may arise from the receipt or use of a prize. Independent financial advice should be sought. 

     

    Liability

    1. ESA, its contractors, employees and agents, will not be liable for any claims, losses, damages, injuries, costs and expenses suffered, sustained or incurred (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) as a result of, arising out of or in any way connected with the Competition and/or its prize, except for liability that cannot be excluded by law and reserves the right to take any action that may be available. 
    2. ESA assumes no responsibility for:
      1. any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to, or alteration of, an entry or the Competition; or
      2. for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone, network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website, or any combination of them, including any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation in the Competition.
    3. If there is an event beyond the ESA’s reasonable control which prevents or hinders the conduct of the Competition or ESA’s ability to deliver the prize to the winner, then ESA may at its sole discretion cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition or change the prize to another prize of the same value. 
    4. To the extent where an entrant is in breach of clause 20 below, the entrant will indemnify ESA for any loss or damage that it incurs. 

     

    Intellectual Property

    1. Each Competition entry remains the property of the student/s whose entry was submitted on their behalf. 
    2. By entering the Competition, each entrant consents and grants a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual licence to ESA to use, reproduce, edit, communicate, publish and deal with their entry (in whole, or in part) for an unlimited period without remuneration, in any media now known or hereafter devised, for the purposes of promoting and administering the Competition, or promoting ESA. 
    3. Each entrant consents to any act or omission by ESA that would, in absence of such consent, infringe the entrant’s moral rights under the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth). 
    4. Without limiting clause 20, entrants acknowledge and agree that their entry may be reproduced (in whole, or in part) as part of ESA’s promotional materials along with a statement that will include an acknowledgement of the entrant’s authorship of the entry, their school year and (if applicable) school.
